We started CreditVidya in 2013 from my two-bedroom apartment and having an office full of employees seemed like a distant dream. Fast-forward to 2018, we hit a century! What started with 2 co-founders and 1 employee, is now a team of 100+ people working on different projects.
I always get asked, “How do you manage your growing team?”, to which I smile. Because it’s not about me managing growth, but people who have brought and managed the growth at CreditVidya. We’re very picky about our people because scaling well is the key to growing. When everyone knows their responsibility and leads themselves, scaling is a hassle-free experience.
For instance, when we go to buy a computer system, we look at a lot of elements, and not just its monitor, right?
Same is the case with hiring. When we’re hiring for our tribe, we go beyond making decisions based just on their appearances. We dig deeper, and look for the following traits:
Aptitude: It’s like the CPU of the system which does all the processing. We look for one’s ability to do the work assigned to them. The art with which they put their learning into application; their competence and potential to get things done using the knowledge they have acquired.
Attitude: It’s like the computer’s battery, if low, the system goes off. So we look for people who believe in the power of perseverance and possibility. The ones who see problems and challenges as opportunities to grow versus being defined by them.
Skills & Experience: It’s like a disk that stores data; data that can be retrieved easily in times of need. Not all of us are born with “talent”, but all of us have this innate capacity to develop skills through hard work and practice. We look for people who go beyond their academics/ jobs and have a knack of picking up new skills.
These are the qualities that weave all of us at CreditVidya together. Additionally, when hiring for our senior/ leadership roles, we look at people who have:
Business Knowledge: A good understanding of the ecosystem of our business, its stakeholders and the industry we belong to, is vital. Experience of having worked in the domain before is like the icing on the cake.
Vision: If you don’t know where you’re going, no road will take you there. So we look for people who have a sense of direction, essentially, people who can lead our teams towards achieving our goals.
People Skills: A team is like a closed fist- made up of fingers that are different from one another, but fit perfectly when put together. And someone who understands that every resource in the team has different strengths, is able to create synergy and make them work in harmony is who we settle for.
